Police assault: Six officers to be investigated over molestation of man in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged molestation of a young man at Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to the command, the investigation became necessary following a video currently circulating on social media showing some police personnel assaulting the young man.

Following a prompt review of the incident, the six officers involved have been identified as Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu and Corporal Amos Sunny.

Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the misconduct of the officers involved.

The officers have been taken into custody, and disciplinary procedures have been initiated in line with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

The command used the medium to reiterate its zero-tolerance stance on police misconduct, unprofessional conduct and any violation of the rights of citizens.

In a press statement made available to journalists through the desk of the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the command stated that the actions of the officers, as seen in the video, are inconsistent with the values, ethics and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

The command assured members of the public that the matter would be handled thoroughly, transparently and in accordance with established procedures.

“The outcome of the investigation and disciplinary process will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
