World Cup 2026: England gets easy round of 32 opponent

England has secured the top position in Group L after defeating Panama 2-0 in New Jersey and will face DR Congo in the World Cup round of 32.

Goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane ensured the victory for Thomas Tuchel’s team in their final group match on Saturday evening.

Following this, England will battle DR Congo in the round of 32, as the African team came from behind to win 3-1 against Uzbekistan, finishing third in Group K, behind second-placed Portugal and group leaders Colombia.

The match between England and DR Congo in the round of 32 is scheduled to occur in Atlanta on Wednesday, July 1, with a kick-off time of 5pm BST.

Should England triumph over DR Congo, they will face either Mexico or Ecuador in the round of 16.

The Three Lions would subsequently encounter one of Brazil, Japan, Ivory Coast, or Norway in the quarter-finals.

Despite facing criticism for their sluggish attacking performances against Ghana and Panama, England boss, Thomas Tuchel remains confident that his team will improve as the tournament advances.
